How We Test

How We Test Crypto Platforms

Evidence-first reviews built from hands-on setup, not marketing screenshots

CryptoVault Review exists for one job: to separate real security and usability from marketing. Our ratings are built from hands-on setup, repeatable checks, and a scoring rubric designed to punish hidden risk—not reward flashy features. We test with real accounts and real device setups, verify claims against primary documentation where possible, and score security and custody controls before convenience.

Key Takeaways

  • We test with real accounts and real device setups, not screenshots
  • We verify claims against primary documentation where possible
  • We score security and custody controls before convenience
  • We treat fees as a total-cost problem, not a headline number
  • We re-check findings when products, policies, or risks change

Our Testing Process

Four consistent stages across exchanges and hardware wallets so you can compare like-for-like

  1. Define Scope

We document the exact product tier, region availability, and features under review so results aren't mixed across versions.

  2. Verify Claims

We cross-check public statements—security pages, risk disclosures, help docs, audits and attestations where available—and flag anything that's vague, outdated, or unverifiable.

  3. Hands-on Testing

We complete onboarding, basic funding and withdrawal flows, key security settings, and common failure paths: locked accounts, withdrawal holds, address whitelisting, recovery steps.

  4. Score and Retest

We assign scores using one rubric, publish what moved the score, and re-test when material changes are confirmed.

Methodology FAQs

If you want the «why» behind our scores, these are the rules we follow.

Pros

Our methodology favors what keeps you safe in real-world use: strong account protection, clear custody practices, predictable withdrawals, and transparent policies. We're comfortable giving lower scores to popular platforms if basic risk controls are unclear or hard to enable. You'll see exactly which category pulled a score up or down.

Cons

No review can see inside a company's private systems, and not every claim has public evidence. When information is incomplete, we don't fill gaps with optimism—we score the uncertainty. Also, identical brands can have different experiences across regions and product tiers, so we pin reviews to the tested setup.

Security Focus

We look at account security options like multi-factor authentication, withdrawal protections, and session controls. We evaluate custody and storage explanations, incident history disclosures, and whether the platform provides credible third-party evidence such as audits or attestations when published. For hardware wallets, we evaluate backup and recovery flow clarity, transaction verification UX, and whether critical actions can be safely performed under stress.

Fees Approach

We treat fees as total cost across the full user journey—buy and sell spreads, trading fees, deposit and withdrawal costs, and any recurring charges that affect long-term use. If the pricing page is hard to interpret, changes by tier, or only appears after signup, we flag that as a transparency problem even if the «starting fee» looks low.

Features Analysis

Features only earn points when they're usable, documented, and don't add hidden risk. We test everyday workflows—funding, trading, transfers, recovery—and also edge cases like limits, verification loops, failed withdrawals, support escalation. «More features» doesn't automatically mean «better»—we value reliability and control.

Verdict

Our scores are designed for cautious buyers who want a defensible decision, not a hype-driven one. If two options feel similar, the higher-rated one should be the one with clearer controls, fewer surprises, and better safety defaults.
